GYM MEMBERS ARE MORE FIT

Only half of American adults meet the weekly Physical Activity Guideline of 150 minutes moderate or 75 minutes vigorous aerobic exercise, and only around 20% meet the twice weekly recommendation for strength training. A study published in the journal PLOS ONE suggests gym members are more likely to meet these guidelines than non-members.

Researchers found that gym members were 14 times more aerobically active than non-members, and 10 times more likely to meet strength training recommendations, regardless of age or weight. They also tended to have a smaller waist circumference and lower resting heart rate.
