BIGGER MUSCLES AREN’T ALWAYS STRONGER

Bodybuilders are focused on muscle hypertrophy, or increasing the size of muscles. Sure, they look strong. But a study published in the journal Muscle & Nerve suggests bigger muscles aren’t necessarily the strongest muscles.

The researchers point out that there is a weak correlation between increases in muscle size and strength after training. Not only that, but muscular size is built up in a similar way with either high or low load training. High-load training is required for strength development. Finally, they site the fact that muscle size decreases with detraining while strength is maintained.
